How do you save foreign journalism for the next generation? How does SWR become as diverse as Germany itself? How do we help improve the way we as a society speak to each other? What does the future of radio look like? How can we keep an eye on the course of Germany's political climate? With and for the Innovation Lab of the SWR, we find answers to these and similar questions.
Since 2020, the SWR X Lab has been working closely with the editorial teams to develop digital solutions that will particularly inspire the generation of Netflix, TikTok & Co – for SWR and as an offering for all ARD stations. We support this transformation as a strategic innovation agency, as a source of inspiration and as an extended workbench.
Together, we build co-creative spaces in which user-centric formats, products and services emerge. We explore needs and translate insights into strategic potentials, ideas and prototypes. We develop processes for innovation, facilitate workshops & design sprints, and utilize user testing to perform a first reality check of the possible solutions.
No matter how diverse the tasks, our team is always also diverse enough to match: depending on the task, the core team is supported by members from strategy, brand, media, design and technology.

We help bring ideas into the company. To do this, we translate insights into valid arguments, evaluate prototypes in user testing and support internal persuasion with presentations.
We make our tools not only transparent, but also applicable for all. These can be archetypes that fuel user-centered idea development. Additionally, they could be a whole set of templates, trigger cards and methods to carry out innovation.
